Superintendent Cox and Board Members "Read for the Record"
State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox, along with State Board of Education Chair Wanda Barrs and Members Brad Bryant, Larry Winter, and Al Hodge, visited the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf on Thursday, October 8th to Read for the Record. Jump Start’s Read for the Record campaign was designed to bring attention to the importance of early literacy, by attempting to break the world record for the largest shared reading experience ever. This year, Read for the Record encouraged hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle on October 8th. The 2008 campaign succeeded in breaking Jumpstart’s former world record, with nearly 700,000 readers, while results from this year’s campaign are still being counted. To conclude the visit, Superintendent Cox visited some classrooms and interacted with AASD students and faculty.
