Teacher Quality
On January 4, 2005, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) created the Teacher Quality (TQ) Division in the Office of Teacher and Student Support. The goal of the TQ Division is to promote and support quality teaching to improve student learning in every classroom in the state. To achieve this goal the Teacher Quality Division is involved in the following activities:
- collaborating with the Committee on Quality Teaching and other agencies in the coordination and implementation of strategies to improve teaching quality;
- managing effective use of Title IIA funds at the state and local level which are specifically targeted for use to meet the highly qualified teacher requirements of No Child Left Behind;
- developing and implementing a Georgia Teacher Success Model;
- developing and implementing the Academic Coach Program;
- promoting effective use of professional development funds and activities to support school improvement
- providing an incentive for professional excellence and teacher retention through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification.
- maintaining current data regarding Teacher Shortage Areas
