Nicholas D. Ellis serves as the City Manager and Director of Public Safety for the City of Jesup, Georgia, municipal government. Prior to his appointment as interim city manager on January 5, 2024, Ellis served as the commanding officer of the Jesup Police Department, overseeing the uniform patrol, special operations, and administrative divisions, and held the rank of captain. He began his career with the City of Jesup Police Department in 2010 after serving with the Department of Juvenile Justice for two years. Ellis is a graduate of the Wayne County School System and a current student at Columbia College in South Carolina. Active in the Wayne County community, Ellis serves as the past chairman of the Boys and Girls Club of the Altamaha Area Board of Directors and was named to the Georgia Division Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame in August 2022. He is a member of the Leadership Wayne County steering committee as well as an ordained elder and current leader of New Creation Ministries in Jesup, Ga.'s administrative and youth ministries. Ellis also served as the Southern States Police Benevolence Association's Georgia Division Senior Vice President and as a member of the Georgia Board of Public Safety. He continues to serve as chair of the Wayne County School Safety Committee, which he formed in 2018 after being elected to the Wayne County Board of Education in 2014. Ellis completed his second term on December 31, 2022, and served as Chairman of the Wayne County Board for 7 1/2 years. During his tenure as a local board member, Ellis also served as the District 8 Director of the Georgia School Boards Association. Ellis is married to Krystal Ellis of Jesup, Georgia, and they have three children: Amarrion, Dominique, and Kadence.​​
